🎬 Taking the Escalator Video Introductions are Back!
It’s been a while, but I’m excited to bring back these short video intros that help set the tone for each new worksheet.
This one — Emotional Landmarks — looks at the key experiences that define us and how reflection on these moments can lead to insight and motivation for change.
Life leaves us with landmarks, not the kind made of stone or steel, but emotional ones carved into our memories. These are the moments that changed us. A heartbreak that forced self-reflection. A loss that made us grow. A victory that proved we were capable of more than we imagined. These events mark turning points in our personal landscape, guiding how we see ourselves and the world around us.
Some of these emotional landmarks are bright, such as the day we reached a goal, found a passion, or discovered a sense of peace we thought we’d lost. Others are painful, reminding us of mistakes, endings, or times when life didn’t go as planned. But together, they form a kind of map that tells the story of where we’ve been and where we might be heading next.
🧭 Exploring Our Own Landmarks
The Emotional Landmarks exercise invites you to help clients to revisit these defining moments including the “firsts,” the “lasts,” the surprises, the turning points, the wins, and the losses. Each category is an entry point for increased understanding.
For example:
What was a first time that shifted how I saw myself or others?
When did I reach a turning point that changed my path for good?
What loss taught me something I couldn’t have learned any other way?
What moment of clarity helped me forgive, heal, or move on?
💡 Turning Awareness Into Action
Recognizing emotional landmarks isn’t just about nostalgia or pain, rather it’s about perspective. When we know the experiences that shaped us we can increase the insight and improve the motivation needed for positive change.
Takeaway: Your emotional landmarks are not just memories — they are guideposts. Every first, last, loss, and win has something to teach. The question isn’t whether these moments changed you — it’s whether you’ll use what they taught you to keep moving forward.
