In Front of and Behind the Camera

Most people only see part of who we are.

They see the version we show publicly, how we act around others, what we post online, our routines, personality, humor, appearance, or the role we play in everyday life. But behind the scenes, many people carry stress, insecurities, fears, painful memories, pressure, loneliness, or emotions that others may never fully understand.

This worksheet uses the relatable idea of being “in front of” and “behind” the camera to help group members explore the difference between what people see on the outside and what may be happening internally.

The activity begins with a fun and modern icebreaker built around the idea of social media influencers and online content. It then moves into deeper discussion areas focused on:

  • How people come across to others

  • Emotional patterns and daily habits

  • Public image vs. private struggles

  • Misunderstandings and assumptions

  • Identity, self-awareness, and coping

The goal is to encourage insight, empathy, honesty, and meaningful conversation while helping group members to open up by presenting this in a fun and nonthreatening format
